I finished this piece a few weeks ago and hadn’t originally planned on posting it to my public galleries in case I wanted to publish it. I have a different idea now for this project however and a different direction I’ll be taking it so I thought I’d go ahead and share this now. I have never painted so many rocks in my life, I spent days painting rocks but it taught me a lot about rocks and I learned a lot while doing this piece. This was supposed to be a two page layout for a book, the text is gibberish, don’t bother trying to read it!

This is inspired by “The Firebringer” trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce. These are no particular characters, a Unicorn mare and a griffin tercel, of my own creation. This is my first try at drawing a griffin so be gentle. I put the feathers on the tip of the tail because I thought it made good sense for flight. I used a greyscale colorization technique for both of these characters and I’m rather pleased with the result. I’ll definitely be using this technique more often.

“Must draw more ponies!” ‘Cause I don’t think there are enough. Well honestly I could just keep drawing them and filling every corner with their little rotund pony bodies but I’ll quit now. So there are lots of ponies. But look, there are other things also, like celtic knot trees! And oh, yes, a dragon too! The story about this is that I had a dream. About a white dragon with pink wings that guarded over a herd of ponies and watched over them and made sure they had happy little pony lives. I’m quite inspired to someday make it into a children’s storybook.
